Specification
Pick the grade from the element and its exposure, not from the rate card. The cheapest compliant grade for a slab is expensive if the slab is in contact with saline groundwater.

Add 18 percent GST. Rates assume a full 6 cum load, chute discharge and standard plant hours. Cement content and water-cement ratio follow the durability limits in IS 456 Table 5 for the exposure class shown.
Non-structural filling below footings and under floor slabs. Ordered where a clean uniform base is needed and reinforcement is absent.
Rs. 3,950/cum · slump 50-75 mm · cement 200 kg/cum · w/c 0.62
The standard blinding layer poured over compacted soil before reinforcement is laid. Also used for kerb haunching and pavement sub-base.
Rs. 4,150/cum · slump 50-75 mm · cement 220 kg/cum · w/c 0.60
Common for parking aprons, godown floors, boundary wall foundations and plinth protection where load is light and cover is generous.
Rs. 4,450/cum · slump 75-100 mm · cement 240 kg/cum · w/c 0.58
The minimum grade permitted by IS 456 for reinforced concrete in mild exposure. Widely used for G+2 residential frames, staircases and lintels.
Rs. 4,750/cum · slump 100-125 mm · cement 300 kg/cum · w/c 0.55
The workhorse grade of Indian construction. Specified for most residential and commercial framed structures up to eight or ten floors.
Rs. 5,100/cum · slump 100-150 mm · cement 320 kg/cum · w/c 0.50
Chosen when durability governs rather than strength: retaining walls, underground tanks, podium slabs, and any element in contact with soil or water.
Rs. 5,550/cum · slump 120-160 mm · cement 340 kg/cum · w/c 0.45
Standard for piling, pile caps and shear walls in high-rise work, and for post-tensioned floor plates where early strength gain governs the cycle.
Rs. 5,950/cum · slump 120-160 mm · cement 360 kg/cum · w/c 0.45
Used in lower-storey columns of tall towers, bridge superstructure and coastal structures where chloride ingress is the design driver.
Rs. 6,450/cum · slump 140-180 mm · cement 380 kg/cum · w/c 0.40
Specified for transfer beams, heavily loaded industrial floors and precast yards. Requires tight admixture control and continuous cube monitoring.
Rs. 7,000/cum · slump 150-180 mm · cement 400 kg/cum · w/c 0.40
High-performance mix for column loads in thirty-plus storey towers, marine piling and precast segment casting.
Rs. 7,600/cum · slump 150-200 mm · cement 420 kg/cum · w/c 0.38
Usually supplied as a self-compacting mix for congested reinforcement zones where a needle vibrator cannot physically reach.
Rs. 8,300/cum · slump 160-200 mm · cement 440 kg/cum · w/c 0.36
Reserved for ultra high-rise cores and columns, long-span prestressed members and specialist infrastructure. Trial mixes are mandatory.
Rs. 9,100/cum · slump 160-220 mm · cement 460 kg/cum · w/c 0.34
Where it goes
Grade selection is a durability decision as much as a strength decision. Pick from the element you are casting and the environment it will sit in, not from the cheapest number on the rate card.
Suspended floor slabs, podium decks and terrace slabs. Slump is set at 120 to 150 mm for pumped placement, and continuity of supply matters more than any other factor, because a cold joint in the middle of a slab is a permanent defect.
Vertical members carry the highest stresses in a tall building and are poured into tight, congested formwork. Higher slump with smaller aggregate improves flow around dense reinforcement without segregation.
Large monolithic pours where heat of hydration must be controlled. Blended cements reduce peak temperature, and mixer cycling is planned so the previous layer has not set before the next arrives.
Tremie-placed concrete requires high cohesion and high slump with no segregation. A pile pour must not be interrupted, so mixers are staged before starting rather than despatched as the pour proceeds.
Water-retaining and earth-retaining elements are governed by permeability, not strength. A low water-cement ratio with an integral waterproofing admixture is what actually keeps a basement dry.
Large-area floors with flatness tolerances and abrasion resistance requirements. Steel or polypropylene fibre dosing controls shrinkage cracking across the wide unjointed bays modern warehouses demand.
Pavement quality concrete designed for flexural strength rather than compressive strength alone. Placement rate and finishing discipline determine ride quality more than the mix design does.
Liquid-retaining structures under IS 3370, where crack width control governs the design. That means low water-cement ratio, disciplined curing and a mix that will not shrink away from the reinforcement.
Non-structural layers under footings, floors and pavements. Cheap, fast and unglamorous, but a poor blinding layer will misalign every bar laid on top of it.
Factory or yard casting where early strength governs the demoulding cycle. Consistency between batches matters more than any single batch result.
