How TMT is made

Four stages, in order

The sequence is what gives the bar a hard surface and a ductile core. Skip a stage and you get a bar that either snaps or bends.

STAGE 01

Hot rolling

Billets are rolled down to the finished diameter at around 1,000 °C and leave the last stand still glowing.

STAGE 02

Quenching

The bar passes through a high-pressure water jacket. The outer skin hardens into martensite in a fraction of a second while the core stays hot.

STAGE 03

Self-tempering

Heat trapped in the core flows back outward and tempers that hardened rim into tough tempered martensite.

STAGE 04

Atmospheric cooling

On the cooling bed the core transforms slowly into ductile ferrite and pearlite. Hard outside, soft inside — that is the whole trick.

Buying TMT in Bengaluru

Which TMT grade should I use in Bengaluru?

Bengaluru is in Seismic Zone II. Fe 500D is the safe default for framed structures, Fe 550D where the design is optimised for steel saving, and CRS if the site is close to the sea. Send us the structural drawings and we will tell you what the BOQ actually needs.

Do you supply mill test certificates in Bengaluru?

Five tonnes for delivered loads. Below that you are welcome to lift from our stockyard directly, and we will still issue the mill test certificate.

Do you give a discount for advance payment?

Yes. Pay 100% of the invoice value before despatch and you get a flat 1% cash discount on the basic value, shown as a line on the tax invoice.

What happens if the material is rejected on site?

If your structural consultant rejects a consignment on test results, we lift it from site and replace it with fresh material at our cost. No restocking charge and no argument.

Primary mill material from the national brands, and secondary from audited regional rolling mills where the price gap is worth it and the test results hold up.
