How TMT is made

Four stages, in order

The sequence is what gives the bar a hard surface and a ductile core. Skip a stage and you get a bar that either snaps or bends.

STAGE 01

Hot rolling

Billets are rolled down to the finished diameter at around 1,000 °C and leave the last stand still glowing.

STAGE 02

Quenching

The bar passes through a high-pressure water jacket. The outer skin hardens into martensite in a fraction of a second while the core stays hot.

STAGE 03

Self-tempering

Heat trapped in the core flows back outward and tempers that hardened rim into tough tempered martensite.

STAGE 04

Atmospheric cooling

On the cooling bed the core transforms slowly into ductile ferrite and pearlite. Hard outside, soft inside — that is the whole trick.

Buying TMT in Kochi

Which TMT grade should I use in Kochi?

Kochi is in Seismic Zone III. Fe 500D is the safe default for framed structures, Fe 550D where the design is optimised for steel saving, and CRS if the site is close to the sea. Send us the structural drawings and we will tell you what the BOQ actually needs.

The first five transactions run on 100% advance, each earning the 1% cash discount. After five clean transactions we review your offtake, GST returns and payment record and agree a credit line, typically 30 to 45 days against PDC or bank guarantee.

Can we get the material tested by a third-party laboratory?

Yes. Samples are drawn in the presence of your engineer and sent to an independent NABL-accredited laboratory, and you are welcome to nominate the lab yourself. The mill test certificate comes with every load regardless.

What happens if the material is rejected on site?

If your structural consultant rejects a consignment on test results, we lift it from site and replace it with fresh material at our cost. No restocking charge and no argument.
